ABSTRACT
A modified Dumas procedure is presented, which extends its application to soils of high organic matter content. The modification eliminates the interference of CH4 that often causes values to be from 5 to 20% higher than Kjeldahl values. The instrument used for the Dumas procedure can be easily converted to determine C in soils. Changes necessary for this conversion are presented.
