Extraction of Water-Soluble Copper and Molybdenum from Podzol Soils1

Umesh C. Gupta and D. C. Mackay

Experimental Farm, Canada Dep. of Agriculture, Charlottetown, P.E.I., Can.

ABSTRACT

Water-soluble Cu and Mo were determined from the soils of the Podzol region of eastern Canada, representing a range in textural classes from clay loam to fine sandy loam. Removal of the organic matter from the water-extract of soils increased the amount of Cu considerably. The procedure proved useful for precise and accurate determination of total water-soluble Cu and Mo in the soils investigated.
