Significance of Cellulose Components in the Thermogravimetry of Organic Soils1

ABSTRACT

The holocellulose, cel ulose, and 1 gnin contents of organic soils were determined chemically in an effort to establish which component was responsible for the observed thermogravimetric behavior. The 280C differential thermogravimetric (DTG) peaks, previously shown to be inversely related to the degree of humification, were identified as resulting from the pyro ysis of the cel ulose components.
