ABSTRACT
Modulus of rupture was reduced 65% for a sandy loam soil and 57% for a silt loam soil by addition of 0.4% (by weight) dry powdered hexadecanol. Emulsified hexadecanol, powdered commercial tallow alcohol, and smaller dosages had less effect.
Less than 2% of the 14C-tagged hexadecanol placed in a 1-cm thick layer of sandy soil moved under either saturated or unsaturated flow conditions. Movement probably took place in the form of small buoyant particles.
