Scanning Electron Microscopy as Applied to Organo-Mineral Complexes in Alkaline Extracts of Soil1

J. F. Dormaar2

ABSTRACT

Lyophilized alkaline extracts from a Black Chernozem (Udic Haploboroll) Ah horizon were scanned in a scanning electron microscope. The micrographs obtained show the physical associations of organic and mineral matter before and after acidification and purification. A large percentage of the organoclay mineral complexes present in humic acids is probably formed during acidification.
