ABSTRACT
Effects of 12 solution/soil ratio-shaking time combinations upon Mn extracted by 0.1N HCl, 0.1N H3PO4, 0.005M DTPA, and 1N NH4OAc from 12 Michigan and Indiana soils were studied. A solution/soil ratio of 25 with 120 min of shaking maximized extractable Mn by the four extractants. However, with 0.005M DTPA and 1N NH4OAc shaking time and solution/soil ratio had little effect on extractable Mn. When results were correlated with Mn uptake by soybeans [Glycine max (L.) merr.], the best correlation was obtained with a solution/soil ratio of 5 and 120 min of shaking for 0.1N HCl and 0.1N H3PO4. Correlation of plant Mn uptake with DTPA- and NH4OAc-extractable Mn was relatively independent of solution/soil ratio-shaking time combinations used.
