Errors were found in a chemical formula in the paragraph immediately above the Conclusions section. The statements in question on page 1114 should read Kittrick (1970) pointed out that stability of kaolinite in soils might vary between the crystalline form and that of halloysite. Thus, log *Ks for 0.5 Al2Si2O5 (OH)4 + 3H+ = Al3+ + H4SiO4 + 0.5 H2O might vary between 3.1 and 5.4 at 20°C (thermodynamic data reported by Manley et al., 1987; Stumm and Morgan, 1981; and Kittrick, 1969).
